New state budget leaves new road funding model intact

Road agencies around Michigan aren’t expecting any major changes in funding as a result of the new state budget just signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer last week.
“This year’s budget doesn’t change anything with road funding for the entire state and for cities and villages and MDOT,” Witkowski said.
Witkowski says the real story is what last year’s budget did to increase road funding, something that the Van Buren County Road Commission has been seeing more as the year goes on.
Witkowski says he’s satisfied with the new state budget because it doesn’t make any changes to the road funding formula.
Witkowski says the road commission needed to replace the bridge with or without the state funding, so the allocation really helps its budget.
