President Donald Trump pressured Senate Republicans on Friday to pass the House's recently passed budget resolution, stating they would only need a simple majority vote and urged them to do so before the chamber leaves on its August recess. The Senate will depart for the month on Aug. 7 and will not return until after Labor Day. "I am asking that the Senate adopt a Budget Resolution, which can pass with a simple Majority, before leaving for the August recess," he continued. The comment comes after Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Thursday that Republicans in the upper chamber likely do not have the votes to pass the resolution, despite it needing a mere majority. “As I’ve said before you got to get to 50, and I can’t count to 50 right now on a budget resolution,” he said.
