The Department of Justice (DOJ) argued the measure is unconstitutional when used against federal agents, pointing to the administration’s recent wins in similar legal challenges it launched against California, Virginia and Philadelphia. This spring, Milwaukee joined a growing number of localities that have passed restrictions on how law enforcement, including federal agents, can operate. The city’s ordinance bans law enforcement officers from wearing a face covering “while interacting with the public in the performance of the officer’s duties.”
