The Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is proposing new changes related to snowmaking, parking and avalanche mitigation that, the resort says, would improve employee safety, guest experiences, operational efficiency and early-season terrain. Changes to A-Basin’s snowmaking procedures would include the addition of 4.4 miles of new snowmaking lines, expanding overall snowmaking coverage from the current 75 acres to 140 acres. These new lines will mostly be implemented in previously disturbed areas, like existing ski trails and mountain roads. The proposed parking improvements would create two new parking areas — Moose Hollow and Upper Upper Last Chance — as well as a second pedestrian crossing over U.S. Highway 6, allowing the ski area to create around 400 new parking spots. These systems allow for employees to mitigate avalanche risk at the ski area by remotely triggering avalanches.
