As soon as the House assembled, Er Rashid entered the Well of the House and staged a protest over what he described as “oppression” in Kashmir. While Opposition members, led by Rahul Gandhi, were demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, Er Rashid raised issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir. Gandhi, according to Er Rashid, assured him of his support. Er Rashid alleged that Kashmiris were being subjected to collective punishment and claimed that restrictions on expression and protests in Jammu and Kashmir reflected a “martial law-like situation”. Er Rashid again raised the issue when the House resumed at noon, seeking to draw attention to what he described as denial of democratic rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
