On Wednesday, the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents voted 10-1 to extend President Rebecca Cunningham’s contract through 2031.
At the July 22 Board meeting, the amendment to Cunningham’s employee agreement was presented to the public, including an extension of her employment contract by two years, which now runs to June 30, 2031.
This is not the first time a University president has had their contract extended; previous University presidents have had additional time to their contracts, including presidents Robert Bruininks, Eric W. Kaler and Joan Gabel.
“By expanding hands-on learning and preparing a highly skilled workforce, President Cunningham is ensuring the University remains a vital engine for progress,” the statement read.
“The Regents are proud of the momentum built so far and optimistic for the work ahead under President Cunningham’s continued leadership.”
