The administration, however, said regular and intensive inspections would be carried out and that no construction would be permitted within the prescribed restricted zone along national highways without prior approval from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) or the competent ministry. The report also stated that the District Highway Safety Task Force was constituted through a notification issued on July 22. A special time-bound drive will be launched to identify and map violations along national highways with the participation of all line departments. Separately, the Deputy Commissioner issued a notification introducing an integrated enforcement protocol under the National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002, to ensure coordinated action by the district administration, PWD (National Highways), police and the Transport Department. Implementation of the protocol will be reviewed during monthly meetings of the District Highway Safety Task Force.
