Fraud drives national increaseMeanwhile, cyber crime cases across India rose from 86,420 in 2023 to 1,01,928 in 2024, an increase of nearly 18%. The NCRB figures relate to cases registered under cyber crimes, while complaints received through the NCRP constitute a separate dataset. The MHA said investigation, registration of FIRs and subsequent action on cyber crime complaints are handled by the respective State and Union Territory law enforcement agencies.
