The Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce is calling for a shared commitment to protect Canadian jobs following new threats of 50 per cent tariffs from the United States.
The local chamber issued a news release stating these new trade actions create “legitimate risks” for businesses in sectors like agriculture, automotive and manufacturing, which support thousands of jobs in Chatham-Kent.
The release said the “uncertainty” should not lead to panic, but it requires a “thoughtful and coordinated approach.”
“A thoughtful, disciplined approach will help businesses protect operations, preserve Canadian jobs and position themselves to respond from a place of strength.”
The local chamber is suggesting businesses review their exposure to changing trade conditions.
