To the Editor,I’m writing as a mountain biker who regularly enjoys the city and county multi‑use trails. Dogs don’t always understand how fast a bike is moving and even a well‑trained dog can dart unpredictably: a collision at trail speed can seriously injure the dog, the rider, or both. I’ve had some close calls lately and also felt threatened when someone’s dog wasn’t held by their collar or called back to the owner’s side. Most dog owners (and hopefully, most bikers) are responsible and attentive, but even the best‑behaved or well-trained dog can react unpredictably when a bike approaches. I hope more people will consider the impact of letting dogs roam freely so all of us can safely continue enjoying the trails we love.
