China pledges stronger military cooperation with South Sudan

China has pledged to deepen military cooperation with South Sudan by expanding dialogue, exchanges and collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries, reaffirming its support for peace and stability in the East African nation.
Chen also welcomed the appointment of Major General Wu Junhui as Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), describing it as recognition of China’s contribution to global peacekeeping efforts.
Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s peace process as the two countries celebrate 15 years of diplomatic relations.
He said China would continue expanding practical cooperation across various sectors while supporting the country’s efforts towards lasting peace and development.
South Sudan’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Lt Gen Chol Thon Balok, commended China for its longstanding support in peacebuilding, infrastructure development and economic investment, and called for closer bilateral cooperation.
