FDA Says Eggs Distributed Across Six States May Pose Serious Health Risks. On Friday, U.S. company Midwest Poultry Services recalled approximately 1.5 million dozen eggs produced in Texas because of possible salmonella contamination. The FDA said salmonella can cause serious and, in some cases, fatal infections, especially in young children, older or “frail” adults, and other people with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the bacteria can cause more serious illnesses, including arthritis or arterial infections.
