During Q2, Televisa-Univision generated $323 million in U.S. advertising revenue during the quarter, a decrease of 29 percent from the prior year.
Executives attributed the decline to cyclical weakness caused by competing sports programming — namely, the FIFA World Cup tournament, which aired on Comcast’s Telemundo.
The company credited the increase to the FIFA World Cup, which attracted substantial audiences and advertiser demand.
Televisa-Univision has the rights to the FIFA World Cup tournament in Mexico, and its streaming service Vix offered online access to the games there.
The company did not provide evidence that the World Cup materially improved its U.S. television advertising business during the quarter.
