ASHFIELD — A man traveling south in the area of 550 Ashfield Mountain Road was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after the red Ford Focus he was driving collided with an oncoming tractor trailer Friday afternoon. Ashfield, Goshen, Colrain and Shelburne Police departments, as well as Massachusetts State Police, responded to the crash, which occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. State Police closed a roughly 1-mile portion of Ashfield Mountain Road for approximately an hour. Ashfield Police Chief Beth Bezio said although the road has a 45 mph speed limit, it’s unclear how fast the sedan was traveling. The driver of the tractor trailer did not appear to be injured. “Sounds like he crossed the center line and hit the tractor trailer truck head-on,” Bezio said.
