Taking on the next chapter of the Blade Runner franchise isn't the kind of job many filmmakers would eagerly volunteer for. That's exactly what Silka Luisa signed up for with Blade Runner 2099, and thankfully, she wasn't navigating that challenge alone. As the showrunner of Prime Video's upcoming series, Luisa had two legendary voices helping guide the project from the very beginning. Scott played an active role in helping preserve the franchise's mythology as Blade Runner 2099 found its own identity. Rather than revisiting familiar stories or leaning on nostalgia, Blade Runner 2099 appears to be building on the foundation established by Scott's original film and Blade Runner 2049 while exploring new mysteries inside the same universe.
