Hempstead County officials are reminding residents that county trash collection is for household trash only. Items such as yard waste, appliances, furniture, and other large debris will not be picked up during regular trash collection. Instead, those items may be taken to the Hempstead County Shop and placed in a county-provided dumpster. Paint cans containing paint should be taken to the county shop for disposal, and lithium batteries must be placed in the large open-top dumpster at the county shop. The Hempstead County Shop is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
