Weighing 300lb with tusks that never stop growing, the boars break from the woods in search of fields to dig for food. For farmers and dog walkers alike, it is an increasingly common complaint, with concern such that some hunters have even started taking matters into their own hands. However, it was during the English Civil War that peasants raided the royal forests in search of food, eating boars to extinction. They were entirely absent until the 1980s when wild boars were brought back, imported by farmers to be reared for meat. Last year, a dog walker's cocker spaniel and a horse rider were attacked by illegally released wild boar in Dartmoor National Park.
