Charli XCX’s new album Music, Fashion, Film has been hailed as a “disarmingly deep album” amid a string of positive and mixed reviews.
Rolling Stone gave the album four stars and called it “a brilliant, catchy, often very funny look at the machinery of fame”.
Billboard magazine noted the change in genre from Brat, saying Music, Fashion, Film is more “guitar-focused” and “less beat-heavy”.
It added: “Music, Fashion, Film is another fascinating, addictive, singular catalogue entry in a body of work that is quickly becoming one of the 21st century’s most formidable.”
In one of the few negative reviews for Music, Fashion, Film, The Telegraph criticised its “grating production” and “empty, self-conscious songs”, adding: “The end result is incoherence, and a clear split in quality.
