The California legislature has approved $227.5 million in funding for ports that will support the buildout of floating offshore wind projects off California’s deep-water Pacific coast. Nancy Kirshner-Rodriguez, senior director of policy and outreach at the Oceantic Network industry body, said the funding will help to “deliver jobs and economic activity for decades”. “While the federal government is attacking needed energy and infrastructure projects, California’s leadership is driving the market forward, delivering significant economic support that will result in local port investment and create new jobs,” she said. In late August, the Trump administration had announced it would axe $679 million in federal funding for upgrading 12 ocean ports across the country for offshore wind activities, including in west coast states.
