The Nova Scotia RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Unit has charged a Central Caribou man following an investigation involving child sexual abuse and exploitation material. In April, the RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Unit was notified by a social media platform that the material was being transmitted through its service. On July 22, members of the Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Unit and RCMP Digital Forensic Services, with assistance from Pictou County District RCMP and the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence on Glen Road East in Central Caribou. As a result of the investigation, Steven Frederick Nelson, 67, of Central Caribou, faces two counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material, and one count each of Transmitting Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material, Unlicensed Possession of a Firearm, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm. In Nova Scotia, anyone who encounters suspected child sexual abuse or exploitation material must report it.
