During the confrontation, a Palestinian seized a weapon from one of the settlers and opened fire, killing two Israeli settlers. An Israeli army investigation found that the settlers had entered an off-limits area, triggering the confrontation with Palestinian residents. The army also decided to redeploy additional troops from Lebanon and Gaza to the occupied West Bank and launched an operation in Nablus, during which forces raided Nablus Speciality Hospital. Settlers also attacked other Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank, including the town of Farata in Qalqilya governorate, wounding at least eight Palestinians.
