One of Britain's most prestigious private schools is embroiled in a bitter row with residents over plans to expand their site - including developing the home of Sir Edward Elgar. Malvern College is a £20,000-a-term independent boarding school which is considered one of the most beautiful in England and is described as a "real-life Hogwarts" nestled away in the hills of the Worcestershire countryside. But the historic institution has now angered locals with proposals to build a new bespoke preparatory school building just metres away from residential homes in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Residents fear the huge 9.6 acre site - which will include multi-use games area, a tennis court, play areas, car parking and footpaths - will damage the character of the area, cause traffic chaos and destroy local wildlife.
