Ms Sultan reflects on memories of playing freely with other children in Gaza's streets while visiting as a girl. Each day upon waking, Ms Sultan immediately checks her phone to confirm whether her relatives are still alive. Like Ms Sultan, she has been "glued to the internet" to check for updates every day since the outbreak of hostilities. Ms Solomon and a group of volunteers gather each week in Sydney to read aloud the names of the captive so they are not forgotten. Ms Sultan says the recognition "is too little too late but we will embrace anything that would save even one life moving forward".
