The Korean Finance & Services Workers’ Union (KFWU), together with its Shinhan Card branch, held a rally in Seoul on 15 July to protest a sharp increase in long-distance personnel assignments that has severely disrupted workers’ family and caregiving responsibilities.
According to media reports, the rally took place outside the headquarters of Shinhan Financial Group, the parent company of Shinhan Card Co. Ltd.
The union, however, alleges that Shinhan Card used mass long-distance assignments as a form of indirect restructuring and as a means of pressuring employees to resign, while bypassing consultation requirements in the collective agreement.
The rally adopted a resolution condemning the company for unilaterally implementing large-scale remote transfers while disregarding consultation procedures set out in the collective agreement.
“We call on Shinhan Card to immediately enter into good-faith dialogue with the union in accordance with the existing collective agreement,” said Acharya.
