Public school districts, charters or private schools have until Nov. 14 to apply for money under Ohio's new School Bus Safety Grant Program, an initiative to improve the safety of public and private school transportation based on specific transportation needs. Mike DeWine announced Friday the creation of the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program, a new initiative to improve the safety of public and private school transportation across the state. The program includes $10 million for the repair, replacement or addition of authorized school bus safety features on buses currently in service, or for safety enhancements when purchasing a new school bus. Eligible applicants include public school districts, joint vocational school districts, charter schools, private schools that fall under the category of chartered nonpublic schools, educational service centers and county boards of developmental disabilities. Applications for the grant program will be accepted until 5 p.m. Nov. 14 through the department’s e-grant system, ED STEPS.
