According to leaks, HMD Global is reportedly developing a new smartphone interface inspired by Microsoft’s discontinued Windows Phone platform. HMD looks to be experimenting with a tile-based user interface similar to the colourful Live Tiles that were a defining feature of Nokia Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone. The interface is expected to provide users with glanceable information through dynamic tiles rather than the traditional Android app icon layout. A Windows Phone-inspired interface could give HMD a distinctive identity while retaining access to the Android app ecosystem. Windows Phone was discontinued after failing to gain significant market share against Android and iOS, but it does have a loyal following, appreciating its clean design, typography and Live Tile interface.
