Article content The original church building, known as Pleasant Prairie Baptist Church, opened its doors in 1896 and severed the German Baptist community until 1911 when the second house of worship, the First German Baptist Church opened its doors five miles west of Wetaskiwin. Article content That church was dedicated as Pleasant Prairie Baptist Church in 1942 and saw the Golden Jubilee Celebration in 1946. In 1953, the amalgamation became a reality and after 26 years as separate churches, West Side and Pleasant Prairie became Calvary Baptist Church and plans were made to move the Pleasant Prairie church building into Wetaskiwin and in 1954, Calvary Baptist Church found its home at 5415 47 Ave.
