Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened Yemen’s Houthi movement and Iran with “major military punishment” following missile and drone strikes that targeted Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. Trump said Iran would be held responsible for any future Houthi attacks, describing the group as Tehran’s proxy. “Unfortunately, they are starting again, firing on two Saudi ships last night,” Trump wrote. “Consider this post a declaration that if they repeat such actions, the United States will hold Iran responsible, as the Houthis are its agents, and will impose major military punishment on Iran and of course on the Houthis themselves.” On Wednesday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for what they called a “special military operation” against two Saudi oil tankers, ENCELIA and LAYLA.
