Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the advancement of Saudi Arabia’s civil nuclear program will be contingent upon the Kingdom’s accession to the Abraham Accords. Trump clarified that Washington does not oppose the establishment of civilian nuclear facilities “without enrichment.” His remarks followed the earlier announcement of a U.S.–Saudi deal to develop a peaceful nuclear program in the Kingdom. The U.S. Department of Energy confirmed the signing of a cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, establishing a decades-long partnership in civil nuclear energy worth billions of dollars. According to the department, the deal strengthens national and energy security, reinforces global non-proliferation standards, and deepens strategic ties between Washington and Riyadh.
