The member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Jordan issued a joint statement Thursday condemning recent Iranian assaults on regional countries, describing them as “acts of outright aggression.” The seven nations denounced Iranian attacks on their territories, citizens, and civilian infrastructure, noting that Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan had been particularly targeted. The assaults included strikes on energy facilities, desalination plants, ports, airports, and other civilian sites. The GCC states and Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, stressing their right to self-defense individually and collectively under Article 51 of the UN Charter. They pledged to take all necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, citizens, commercial vessels, and vital infrastructure.
