Play AudioThe Door County Historical Society was recently recognized for keeping history alive in your backyard.
The award coincides with the Door County Historical Society's efforts to restore the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse to its former glory.In addition to rehabilitation work inside the lighthouse, which dates to 1868, the reimagining of the site included restoring the oil house and privy and reconstructing the summer kitchen and barn.
The Door County Historical Society raised more than $3 million to bring former keeper William Duclon's story back to life.
Frank thanked the community for its support, which helped the organization earn the two awards.
"They remind us that preserving history isn't just about protecting old buildings or collecting artifacts — it's about connecting people to the stories that define our community."
