CHARLOTTETOWN — Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada would not respond to new U.S. tariff threats announced this week before they take effect. It said the tariffs, targeted at Canadian goods in response to auto and dairy tariffs and alcohol boycotts, would take effect Aug. 19. The prime minister had said earlier in the day that the response to the "threat" of U.S. antagonism to Canada is "unity" among the regions, which was backed by several premiers. "It's a Team Canada approach led by the prime minister, and that's what we're going to focus on," Ford said. "One day, the prime minister is with him side by side, and next thing you know, President (Donald) Trump turns on him like a rabid dog."
