Jammu, July 23: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Kumar Sharma on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the alleged MBBS entrance scam, accusing him of failing to uphold transparency and accountability during his previous tenure.
In a statement, Sharma alleged that Omar Abdullah’s government had extended service and was later appointed as consultant Mushtaq Peer, the main accused in the Common Entrance Test (CET)-2012 paper-selling case.
He questioned why Omar Abdullah, who was also Home Minister at the time, and investigating agencies did not act earlier on complaints related to the case, alleging that action was initiated only after the intervention of the High Court.
Sharma said the court’s intervention followed submissions by the Amicus Curiae regarding allegations of question papers being sold before the scheduled examination dates, despite complaints to the authorities.
He further alleged that Omar Abdullah was "conveniently hiding" the fact that allegations of a paper leak had also surfaced during the JE Electrical Examination in 2025.
