The operator of Germany's national railway is banning alcohol consumption at all train stations across the country. Bans have already been introduced at 30 stations, including in the major cities of Cologne, Munich and Hamburg. The UK has no blanket ban on drinking at train stations, and passengers can generally consume alcohol on most National Rail services, providing that they are well-behaved. However, drinking alcohol or carrying open containers is banned on trains in Northern Ireland's Translink services and all Transport for London services and stations, including the Underground and Overground. Elsewhere in Europe, drinking at French train stations is generally permitted, while in Spain, it is allowed only inside licensed station bars, cafes and restaurants.
