A local Awami League leader died at a hospital in Sirajganj yesterday after falling ill in jail, prison authorities said. The deceased, Md Bablu Miah, 52, of Purbo Bahuka village under Ratankandi union in Sirajganj Sadar upazila, was president of the ward 9 unit of the Awami League in the union. Sirajganj Jail Superintendent Md Rafikul Islam said Bablu had been in jail for a month in connection with a political violence case. “He fell ill on Wednesday and was taken to the 250-bed Sirajganj General Hospital,” the jail superintendent said, adding that he died yesterday morning. Morsheda Khatun Keya, a reserved-seat member of Ratankandi union parishad, confirmed that Bablu was the ward 9 Awami League president and ran a poultry business.
