French utility Engie has commissioned 100MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Scotland.
Engie’s AI-driven optimisation platform, Orus, will power the BESS projects’ dynamic response to the grid.
The start of operations at the two BESS sites brings the utility’s onshore renewable energy portfolio to 242MW.
According to Engie, the operational start of the two BESS projects in Scotland marks a “significant step forward” in its continued investment in flexible, low-carbon infrastructure across the UK.
The expansion through UKPN also made the UK Engie’s second-largest country of activity.
