Housing instability, family responsibilities, work, absenteeism and other challenges can make staying on a conventional path to graduation increasingly difficult.
GOAL High School, a statewide online public high school with drop-in centers across Colorado, offers students an alternative built around flexibility and individualized support.
Dr. Staves also shares stories from his work with students in the Denver area, illustrating how challenges outside the classroom can affect a young person’s education and what can happen when students find a school environment that works for them.
Together, their perspectives offer a look at the changing role of alternative education in Colorado and the students who are finding a different path toward graduation.
