Recently, researchers demonstrated a new camera capable of tracking particles in 3D space, with the potential to replace millions of detector type components.
Researchers Create Camera Capable of Mapping Particles in 3DRecently, researchers from ETH Zurich and EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) have developed a new particle detector concept called PLATON that aims to change the face of particle detection.
To better understand how the new camera system works, we first need to look at current technology and how it limits modern systems.
This light can then be guided down an optical fibre, and the other end can be coupled to a photon detector.
Initially, it will likely be the physics field that sees this technology first, but any application dealing with particle detection could benefit.
