New Delhi, July 23 (IANS): Legislative Department and Department of Legal Affairs Secretary Rajiv Mani called for uniform legislative drafting across the country to ensure consistency and facilitate their effective implementation, an official said on Thursday. Addressing participants at the 36th Basic Course in Legislative Drafting, organised by the Institute of Legislative Drafting and Research (ILDR), on Wednesday at Vidhayi Sabhagar in Kartavya Bhavan-02, Mani said the course reaffirms the Department's commitment to strengthening legislative drafting capacity through structured training and capacity-building initiatives. The course aims to enhance the participants' understanding of the principles of legislative drafting while providing practical exposure to the drafting of legislative instruments, thereby equipping them with the knowledge and skills required for effective legislative drafting. The programme is expected to further promote uniformity, precision and excellence in legislative drafting and strengthen the institutional capacity of states and Union Territories, the statement said. The Utsav and Shivir focused on deliberations regarding legal, legislative, and institutional reforms aimed at developing a modern, technology-driven, and citizen-centric legal ecosystem, the statement said.
