Speaking to reporters after the visit, Sarma said the floods had caused widespread hardship, damaging agricultural fields, affecting livestock and disrupting the lives of thousands of families. The Chief Minister also said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had spoken to him over the phone to review the flood situation in Assam.
