Nearly 75% of Namibians unable to stretch income to next payday, survey reveals

The survey revealed that overall financial inclusion expanded from 78% in 2017 to 86%, which represents 1,818,168 of the total population, with 1,563,688 financially included.
Of the total population, 81.5% indicated using formal commercial banking services and 71.3% indicated using other formal non-bank financial institutions, with 18.3% reporting having a smart card account.
A large share of 54.1% of the adult population earns N$2,000 and less monthly, while 20.9% of the total population depend on state grants.
Moreover, household financial planning was predominantly directed to consumption.
A total of 30.9% were covered through formal insurance, while 1.7% relied on informal insurance mechanisms.
