The San Francisco Giants are spiraling, and they don't need any strange calls to help flush themselves down the drain.
That's what they got Wednesday, though, when second base umpire Mike Estabrook made a bizarre call on a bang-bang play involving a tag attempt by shortstop Willy Adames on Kansas City Royals baserunner Vinnie Pasquantino.
It was difficult to tell whether Adames was able to hold the tag while Pasquantino's momentum carried him past the base momentarily, so Giants manager Tony Vitello might not have taken issue if Estabrook's call had merely been "safe."
Rather than say Adames hadn't laid the tag, however, Estabrook apparently claimed Adames had pushed Pasquantino off the base.
The season is going nowhere fast for the Giants.
