Canadian midstream giant Enbridge broke ground Monday on its 300 MMcf/d Sunrise Expansion Program. The expansion is set to meet regional and export demand for natural gas across the Pacific Northwest. Full in-service is targeted for late 2028 on the C$4 billion natural gas pipeline (C$1.00/US73 cents). According to NGI’s Entropic Analytics data, the Sumas receipt point where the US-side border interconnect receives natural gas from the Westcoast system averaged 85% of capacity in 2023–2025. A 2025 equity partnership granted 38 BC Indigenous communities a 12.5% ownership stake in the Westcoast pipeline network.
