Former special counsel Jack SmithBy Steve NeavlingHouse Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is asking the Justice Department to investigate former special counsel Jack Smith, accusing him of misleading Congress about evidence gathered during his investigations of President Trump, NBC News reports.
Jordan said recently obtained documents contradict Smith’s testimony and amount to “strong evidence” of possible criminal conduct.
Smith’s attorneys denied he lied, saying he “provided truthful, responsive answers and candidly discussed his work as Special Counsel.”
“Jack Smith could not have lied because Republican Members never even asked the question their theory is based on,” Raskin said.
The Justice Department confirmed it received the referral and said it “will investigate all evidence of criminal conduct.”
