Newton baseball coach Darin Tisdale says an emphasis on hitting and pitching this season translated into more wins. This was Tisdale’s second season leading the Cardinals and their conference record and overall record both improved. The team picked up four more conference wins and increased overall wins by six. For Newton’s pitchers, the emphasis this season was throwing more strikes and reducing walks. The Cardinal pitchers issued 104 walks, down from 135 last season.
