July 21, 2026Canterbury’s community vehicle trusts are performing well and meeting a community need, according to a review by Canterbury’s regional council. Vehicle trusts deliver transport in areas without public transport and includes the areas of Ashburton, Waimate and in North Canterbury. The review found the region’s 17 community vehicle trusts were performing strongly, were financially stable, well governed and ‘‘delivering significant social and community value’’. In areas where there is no subsidised public transport, community vehicle trusts help to fill the gap, with funding from ECan.
