Archbishop Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias of Angola’s Archdiocese of Luanda has challenged Christians to place charity above personal comfort, saying authentic Christian faith is expressed through closeness, solidarity, and responsibility for others, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
In his homily during the Mass marking the Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 19, Archbishop Dias emphasized that charity should never be limited by the discomfort often associated with poverty.
He reiterated that caring for those in need is not optional but lies at the heart of the Church's identity.
“Supporting those who suffer should not be seen as a burden for the community, but as an expression of its identity and mission," Archbishop Dias said.
