Free celebration of Cree music and culture on now until Thursday Admission is free to all Indigenous lineup of live music every eveningArticle content It was a historic day on Tuesday when Creefest launched in Timmins for the first time in its 25-year history.
Article content The annual celebration of Cree food, music and tradition hosted by Mushkegowuk Council will continue Tuesday through Thursday at the McIntyre Community Building with free evening entertainment every night, free breakfast and lunch daily, and free traditional food also on offer in a tent behind the arena.
Mushkegowuk Council is a regional organization that represents the collective interests of the Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Chapleau Cree, Missanabie Cree, Moose Cree, Taykwa Tagamou and Attawapiskat First Nations in northeastern Ontario.
Article content “He’s not Cree, he’s a Six Nations artist,” said event producer Richard Hunter about Derek Miller.
Boileau said she is grateful for the “Cree guidance,” offered to her by members of Mushkegowuk Council, in her term as mayor.
