Ahead of the Pioneer Day holiday this week, Utah lifted its default personal fireworks ban and returned the authority over restrictions to cities, Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced Monday.
However, some caveats will remain, and the state forester will still be allowed to place restrictions in areas facing wildfire risk.
Pioneer Day, which celebrates the arrival of Latter-day Saint pioneers in Utah's Salt Lake Valley, falls this week and prompted the governor's decision to lift the statewide fireworks restrictions.
The order enabled the governor to suspend a portion of statute to allow the state forester to ban fireworks throughout the whole state.
Fireworks are still banned on all federal, state and unincorporated lands, the Utah Department of Public Safety said.
