Organ Donation Month : No corneal donations in Kashmir despite rising transplant demand

The programme also featured a painting competition aimed at creating awareness among the younger generation about the importance of organ donation.
Quoting government figures, officials said more than 500,000 people across India are currently waiting for life-saving organ transplants due to organ failure, underscoring the urgent need to increase voluntary organ donation.
"Our objective is to educate the public about the importance of both living and deceased (cadaveric) organ donation.
For many patients suffering from organ failure or corneal blindness, organ and tissue donation offers a new lease of life and restored vision," officials said.
The Ministry noted that significant progress has been achieved in organ donation and transplantation across the country.
